Richard Hammond left unconscious in crash.

Reports have said Hammond banged his head and was left unconscious after falling off the bike.

Hammond confirmed the rumours after posting on the social media site ‘Drive Tribe’ following the accident.

He said: “I banged my head, yes, along with pretty much everything else apart from my left thumb, which remains un-bruised. Can’t tell you more yet about the how and why of it; that’s all for later in the year on the show. As for injuries; well put it this way, I don’t think I can get a book out of it.”

‘Grand Tour Nation’ have also commented, stating that he was ‘travelling quite fast’ when he came off the motorcycle.

Fortunately, it doesn’t seem as though Hammond was riding as fast as he was driving back in 2006 for ‘Top Gear’. That accident left him in a critical condition in hospital with brain damage.

The car flipped at around 288mph, putting him in a coma for a fortnight.

Details of the motorbike accident are set to be revealed when the show’s second season comes out later this year.
